Elevating Women’s Health Research
Women make up more than half of the population, but they have been understudied and underrepresented in both basic and translational research. This leads to inequities and gaps in research that have contributed to serious consequences for the health of women.
The American Physiological Society launched the Women’s Health Research Initiative to address those gaps by leveraging the expertise of physiologists and science policy and advocacy experts.
Amplifying Impact: Building a Landmark Women’s Health Initiative
In 2024–2025, the Society launched a bold, multifaceted initiative aimed at elevating women's health research and advocacy. I was proud to contribute to the development and promotion of this program, which combined education, policy, and publication strategies to drive meaningful engagement and real-world outcomes.
This comprehensive initiative featured in-person sessions at our annual meeting, an expansive scientific webinar series, targeted science policy and grassroots advocacy efforts, a dedicated teaching curriculum, and special calls for papers and curated content collections through APS’s peer-reviewed journals.
The Results (So Far):
2,600+ webinar registrants
Standing-room-only women’s health forum event
75+ Capitol Hill advocates
210+ peer-reviewed research articles published
